I found a copy of Dilvish, the Damned shortly after high school, read the stories and enjoyed them in what I perceive to be the spirit in which they were written. My impression is that Zelazny wanted to do something along the lines of Robert E. Howard's Conan or Fritz Leiber's Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser.
