CAConrad is the author of The Book of Frank (Wave Books, /Chax Press, ). He is also the author of Advanced Elvis Course (Soft Skull Press, ), (Soma)tic Midge (Faux Press, ), Deviant Propulsion (Soft Skull Press, ), and a collaboration with poet Frank Sherlock titled The City Real and Imagined (Factory School, ). The son of white trash asphyxiation, his childhood included /5(14). In a review of The Book of Frank for Jacket Magazine, poet Eileen Myles observes, “In Conrad’s world the parameters are deliberately unknowable because that is the nature of our time. In piecing together, configuring and releasing [their] extreme miniatures—agonized fables, poems about America. · Frank is Conrad’s alter ego in the vein of John Berryman’s “Huffy Henry” of The Dream Songs, a third person embodiment of Conrad’s psychic unease. Early life. C. A. Conrad was born January 1, in Topeka, Kansas, and grew up in Boyertown, Pennsylvania. Their mother was a fourteen-year-old runaway and father was a Vietnam War veteran, their mother married three times.. Conrad was bullied as a child and stated in the feature film documentary, The Book of Conrad (), "People called me 'faggot' more than they called me my name.". The poetry of CA Conrad does just this in many ways: linguistically, by calling his work "soma (tic) poetry"; thematically, by writing The Book of Frank, a text that tells the tale of a life by breaking it up into individual vignettes that each stand on their own merit; and physically, by literally dissecting the physical body in his poems.
